The department of Masonry, Painting and Construction offers training in the occupations of masonry , painting and decorating. The programmes are Advanced Certificate in Masonry and Certificate in Painting. A Technician Diploma in Construction Industry using the City and Guilds 6565 is also being offered full time.

Just as the other departments offering Diploma programmes, this department is also reviewing its technician Diploma to develop a new national diploma incorporating the City and Guilds programme to meet the demands of the local construction industry. A job analysis workshop (JAW) was conducted with certain construction specialists in late October 2015 to compile the relevant information for programme development.

Apprenticeship training is also a feature of this department. Learners with lower academic abilities can apply for a certificate in masonry and follow the programme.

Apprenticeship training requires the learner to sign a contract with an employer which can be a business organisation, a construction company or a small entrepreneurial business person. The learner will report for training at SIT one day a week or at times on a block-release basis. The duration of the programme is 18 months.
