from January 2015 under the Tertiary Education Act (TEA) 2011.

  • MOTOR VEHICLE ENGINEERING

    The department of Motor Vehicle Engineering provides training in maintenance, servicing and repairs of light vehicles; The programmes available full time are Advanced Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics Technician Diploma in Motor Vehicle Engineering City and Guilds 3905-. SIT hopes to be able to offer Advanced Diploma in Motor Vehicle Engineering for the first time in July next year. This programme is the City and Guilds 3905- A new Diploma programme in Motor Vehicle Engineering, which takes into account the context of Seychelles is being developed for accreditation from SQA in 2016. It will be offered for the first time in 2017.

  • MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

    The Department of Mechanical Engineering provides training in welding techniques and application, machining and fitting and panel beating. The programmes available full time are Advanced Certificate in Mechanical Engineering and Technician Diploma 3 in Engineering, City and Guilds 2565-03-. New City and Guilds Diploma 4, equivalent to the previous advanced diploma in Mechanical Engineering will be offered part-time as of July 2016. A new Diploma programme in Mechanical Engineering, which takes into account the context of Seychelles is being developed for accreditation from SQA in 2016. It will be offered for the first time in 2017.

  • TELECOMMUNICATION / INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY / ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC

    The Department of Telecommunication Systems, and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) provides training in telecommunication systems as well as in Electrical & Electronics. The department is also on target to offer it first Diploma IT Systems Support incorporating the City and Guilds 7267-24 qualification. Presently, full time programmes are being offered by the department are : Advanced Certificate in Electrical & Electronics and technician Diploma in Telecommunications Systems, City and Guilds 2

  • Department of Electrical and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

    The department of Electrical Installation and Refrigeration & Air conditioning offers training at certificate level presently. These are certificate in Electrical Installation 1200hrs and certificate in Refrigeration & Air conditioning 1200hrs. The department is also targeting to offer these two programmes at advanced certificate. The advanced certificate in refrigeration & air conditioning has already received full accreditation for 5 years from SQA, whilst the advanced certificate in electrical installation is still under development. All new programmes are expected to be introduced in 2017.

  • Department of Construction and Masonry / Painting and Decorating

    The department of Masonry, Painting and Construction offers training in the occupations of masonry and Painting and Decorating. The programmes are advanced certificate in masonry, Certificate in Painting. A Technician Diploma in Construction Industry using the City and Guilds 6565 is also being offered fulltime. Just as the other departments offering Diploma programmes, this department is also reviewing its technician Diploma to develop a new national diploma incorporating the City and Guilds programme to meet the demands of the local construction industry.   • Department of Carpentry and Joinery and Plumbing

    The department of Carpentry and Joinery offers training programmes in Wood Working and Plumbing. The programmes are advanced certificate in Carpentry & Joinery and certificate in Plumbing. Apprenticeship training in Carpentry& Joinery is also offered to learners with low academic ability. Just as in masonry, an apprentice has to sign a contract between him/herself, the employer and SIT, whereby the employer will release the learner at least one day per week to attend on-campus sessions at SIT.

  • IN-SERVICE/SHORT PROGRAMS

    The department offers In-Service training where learners follow training in different programmes varying from Certificate, Advanced Certificate and Diploma level for a duration of 2 to 4 years on a part-time basis. Furthermore, the department offers ‘Short Courses’ for a short duration on Saturdays and after working hours during the week. All short courses are derived from our validated programmes by SQA. After completing a short course, the learner will receive a Credit Unit Certificate leading towards a qualification. The short course would be useful for Individuals who would like to venture in Entrepreneurship in the future.
